The Application Process

Help With the Application Process for SSD and SSI

Even though many Social Security disability (SSD) and supplemental security income (SSI) claims are denied at least once, how you approach the initial application process is still very important. In fact, a poorly written or prepared application can actually hurt your chances for success. By contrast, a well-written, carefully considered application can be the difference in securing a favorable decision right away.

At Chermol & Fishman, we know that even with a bureaucracy the size of the Social Security Administration, first impressions matter. We are committed to helping people complete the initial application process as well as vigorously representing them on appeal.

You don't have to take this on yourself - we can help you with the application process. Simply call or contact us online for a free consultation today.

What We Do

To start with, we'll listen. We'll also answer any questions you have and we'll start to prepare you for what to expect by detailing how the process works. At that point, we will probably also have some questions for you. For example:

Are you on any medications? What are they for? What are the side effects? Who are the doctors you've seen? Which clinics or hospitals have you been seen at? When?

Once we have this information, we'll begin the work of gathering your medical records. We will also need to compile a work history for you for the last 15 years and ask you for some basic information about your current financial situation as well. We then analyze this information and use it to develop the best strategy for winning — consistent with the Social Security Administration's regulations, rulings, and relevant case law.

Unfortunately, the SSA denies most initial claims. We are, however, always prepared for that possibility and (depending on what state you live in) will immediately file a Request for Reconsideration or a request for an ALJ hearing in the matter.
