Federal Court Appeals
Disability Claims and Federal Appeals
Experience at the federal court level of the appeals process for social security disability and supplemental security income claims is an invaluable asset.
Chermol & Fishman, LLC, is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, law firm focused solely on SSD and SSI claims. At the administrative level, the majority of our practice is on behalf of clients in Philadelphia, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. However, in disability claims that reach the federal level of the appeals process, our experience allows us to represent clients on a nationwide basis.
The Key to Our Effectiveness
One of the reasons why our firm has been so successful at convincing federal court judges to send these cases back down to the ALJ level is attorney David Chermol's previous experience as SSA's senior disability litigator in Mid-Atlantic Region III.
As a Special Assistant United States Attorney from 1997 to 2007, Mr. Chermol personally litigated or developed litigation strategy for most of the major Social Security disability cases in this region, including many of the major decisions handed down by the Third and Fourth Circuits during that time span.
In addition to those duties, Mr. Chermol provided both national and regional training to the administrative law judges who actually decide these cases. He was also SSA's lead author and presenter in 2006 and 2007 for the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Courses on Social Security Disability Appeals in the Federal Courts, and a lead presenter for national training of SSA attorneys on effective oral advocacy.
Recognized for his leadership in this area of the law, Mr. Chermol served on Barack Obama's National Disability Policy Committee during the 2008 Presidential campaign as well.
